The Special Friends ministry serves children and youth with special needs and their families. We have two main purposes: 1) to allow parents and families to be nurtured in their faith and relationships with Jesus Christ through the corporate worship and teaching of the Word of God while 2) their children with special needs are in a safe, appropriate environment where the truths of Scripture are being taught. The Special Friends curriculum currently uses picture-adapted Bible story books, three from the Old Testament and three from the New Testament, to teach truths of God’s Word to these precious members of our church family. The curriculum is taught within a consistent, picture-supported schedule, appropriate activities and crafts, and a two-to-one ratio of student to adult.
We believe that all people are “fearfully and wonderfully made” by God (Psalm 139:14) and that in serving one another we serve our Lord Jesus Himself, just as He said, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for the least of these my brothers, you did for Me.” (Matthew 25:40) We believe it is one of His deepest desires that we love one another in word and in deed, and it is our hope to demonstrate and experience His love through this ministry. “May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else...” (I Thessalonians 3:12)
Currently, the Special Friends Sunday School class meets every Sunday during the 11:00 AM Family Bible Hour. Twice per month there is additional care available for Special Friends so that their families may participate in the Breaking of Bread at 9:15 AM.
